Funny Sign Friday
Alice, a friend and fellow foreign teacher here, found this sign in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
Chinese tour operator to Chinese tourists: “Hello ladies and gentleman. Welcome to Miss Moon’s Happy Time Tour. Does everyone have their cap? All the same color, right? And with a comically long bill? Great. Now, can everyone see the flag? Yes, bright and shiny, I know. Try to remember: there will be plenty of other tours going on simultaneously and all the tour guides will be carrying flags almost exactly the same as this one. But pay attention to mine, it is an ever-so-slightly darker shade of green. This way you can tell which group you should be with and not get lost.
“Before I tell you all of the rules and regulations of Miss Moon’s Happy Time Tour, I should point out some of the more immediate scenery. On the right, we have the local holy mountain. Oh, and on the left you can see the town’s oldest monastery. What? Yes, still in use today, very good. And here’s a real treat. On the right you can see foreign tourists being civilized. One of our brightest sceneries. Chinese people come from all over to view our foreign tourists being civilized. Look at the British gentleman! He sips his tea with such grace! Such finesse! And the Canadian girl is so polite! She has said thank you to me many times, even for the smallest of matters. It’s quite touching, really. Nowhere else in China can you see foreigners being so civilized. Truly a bright scenery.”
